Restaurant Review: Bar Estilo

Hey everyone! I hope you’re all doing fine. Today I thought to give a review of a restaurant, ‘Bar Estilo’ my friend and I  tried back in Birmingham. It’s located right opposite The Cube, in a mall called The Mailbox. I’m always down for trying new things and new places so I was excited but more so because my friend had never had paella and I really wanted to know her opinion on it considering it looks like Jollof rice (an African dish). You all know I love me some good paella. You can read about my last restaurant visit here.

Anyway, we both shared a platter which in my opinion was quite small considering I sometimes eat for two 🙈 (Sorry not sorry). The food was really nice tho, we had the Estilo Paella, Meat Croquettes and Lamb Kofta. The atmosphere was really nice and warm and so were the waiters.

The meal

  • Estilo Paella: If I’m being honest one platter for two people (what we had) to share won’t be ideal if they’re both hungry, that was my only problem with this. It was yummy tho with some chorizo, chicken, prawns, mussels and squid. The struggle with seafood, I, unfortunately, ended up eating some mussel shells along with the rice.
  • Meat Croquettes: I would say these were perfect. They tasted really good and I would definitely recommend.
  • Lamb Kofta: In the name of being adventurous we thought to try this and that was probably the worst mistake because we did not enjoy it at all. It was served cold with rice but I’m not a fan of cold food so it was just a no from me. After two spoons we both gave up.

It all cost around £26.00 including our lemonades which I think is reasonable for two people. I’d give it a 6/10, if anyone has been there please let me know about your experience in the comment section 🙂

Theresa xx
